| Mock Election-Scholastic News Student Vote! September 22, 2008 Brykerwoods Elementary
During our Project Vote troop meeting, the girls learned about how and when women gained the right to vote, the qualifications for voting, and the impact of voting!
The girls also participated in the Scholastic News Student Mock Election. We set up a sign-in station and private ballot box area like those found in real polling places. After every girl voted, we opened the ballot box and tallied the votes and declared Barack Obama as President.
The girls' votes will be combined with those of students from all over the country before a mock-election winner will be officially announced. Since 1940, the results of the Scholastic mock election have correctly predicted the outcome of every Presidential race but two (1948 and 1960)!
Parents, don't forget to vote on November 4th!

| Jungle Campout May 30-31, 2008 Girl Scout Cabin in Zilker Park
The girls had a blast! Nineteen excited Brownies, two Troop Leaders, and four brave moms camped out at the Girl Scout Cabin in Zilker Park. On Friday, the girls began arriving at 4:30 and quickly began decorating their water bottles and settling into the cabin. Families joined us for pizza and a special rededication ceremony where each girl committed to living by the Girl Scout law and motto. After dinner, the parents said their goodbyes and the fun continued. Of course, no campout would be complete without campfire songs, s'mores, games, a pajama fashion show and story-telling.
On Saturday, the girls woke up bright an early and were of course, HUNGRY! We ate a healthy meal of donuts, cereal and fruit! After breakfast we headed out for a nature hike and enjoyed the sights. After the hike, nineteen tired brownies packed their gear and cleaned up the area and waited for their parents.
Thanks to all the parents for a wonderful year! Special thanks to Holly Wiese, Elizabeth Winslow, Kristin Knifton, MaryAnne Guansing-Notzon, and Michelle Breyer for your help and patience during the campout.
Next year, we'll try two nights!
